International Disc Duplicating Association

PRESS RELEASE

December 20, 2001

CDR DUPLICATORS ACTING ON DEFINITIONS!!

THE INTERNATIONAL DISC DUPLICATING ASSOCIATION TO BOTH SUGGEST DEFINITIONS AND EDUCATE.

The IDDA - the International Disc Duplication Association which was established as a forum and a voice for those involved in the growing service of duplicating onto CD-R, has undertaken in its aims to help define terms used in the Compact Disc Industry so that those involved in disc duplicating understand and use the same standard terms with consistant meaning.

The IDDA represents members in the USA, Australia, Asia and Europe, including organizations that duplicate, label and pack CDs, together with those who manufacture and sell automatic disc duplicating machines, discs, labels and supplies.

What DO you mean?

There is considerable ambiguity in the usage of terms in the compact disc industry. Examples of these terms are the difference between duplicating and replicating, usage of the word ‘CD-ROMS’ to describe stamped discs, what is meant by ‘customization’, and the various descriptions of the different shaped small discs, now used for promotional purposes or as business cards.

Disc duplicators, and particularly members of the International Disc Duplicating Association waste a great deal of time and effort explaining the meanings of industry terms as or clarifying them in order to avoid confusion. Because there is no common definition of these terms in the industry, customers, who have enough difficulty understanding the technology without confusing terminology, are further confused by terminology.

Says Bernhard Kirschner, chairman of the IDDA: “In my own business we find it necessary to define each term used with clients in both discussion, websites and written quotes. We are still a nascent industry, where no-one as yet has tried to positively define terms, and then educate the industry on their meanings.”

THE IDDA IS WORKING ON SOLUTIONS

The IDDA will have a booth at REPLItech USA exhibition in LA, and invites all interested persons and organizations to visit its booth and discuss matters of interest to the disc duplicating industry.
